shutdown(s) & selling wolf tickets

There will be times this blog is deactivated.  If it's not here, it will be back.  It will always be back.

Currently on deck:

  • HERO OF THE FEVER--  a queertopian sci-fi soap opera Infinite Scroll style webcomic --is in process.  Debuting soooooooooooonish.  Don't crowd me.
  • THE BRIDGE OF MANIPULATIONS will be published next year.  It's a comic.  It's a tarot card set.  It's my life's work.  It's true!  This is the place to peek at it.
  • DENIZEN, a bio-comic chronicling William S. Burroughs' involvement in the Carr-Kammerer murder case, is working.  It will be serialized as a webcomic, aimed at print.  With any luck I don't get sued.
  • THE AZURE PANTRY, a dating horror graphic novel, is also on the slate.  Maybe it'll run alongside DENIZEN.  Maybe they have things in common.  Maybe?
  • THE KILL HOUSE: an extremely meta vapor-comic which queers some Image Comics / Wildstorm / DC comics characters everyone's forgotten.  A military adventure thing with conspiracy frosting!  And sprinkles!
  • and, as ever, there's PAINLESS, which was meant to be my attempt at a Disney money cash-in, but now it's dead bottom of the deck.  Who doesn't love a bootleg Wolverine yarn?  Besides copyright holders.

ignore it, it's just another public health emergency

Man it will be nice to not sleep on the living room floor.  Soon!

  • Tracing Gould #s 5 & 6 this week.  Still sussing out what it is, besides evidence of brain damage.
  • Finishing The Ascendant (Hierophant) card.  Sometimes the longest task is finding the right pattern to map onto folded fabric.  Figure I'll do full pencils for this & print up the first set of cards.  Inks on The Imp need to finish.  Overdue!
  • The major arcana of my tarot will form the basis for BRIDGE OF MANIPULATIONS, a 22-page Art Comic.  Because fuck narrative.  Build your own!  I'd like to have BoM in print before the end of the year.  Which means I should get crackin'.  If I can, then theoretically I may complete the whole. damned. deck. within another year...  Anyone wanna lay wagers?  (Don't.)
  • Starting proper pencils on THE KILL HOUSE chapter 1.  Should think about serialization schedule.
  • Starting pencils & thumbnails for opening of DENIZEN this week.  Re-read script enough to determine it's as perfect as it's gonna get.
  • The Burroughs Folio portraits are proceeding apace.  Have Mikey working.  Ian or Kammerer next.  Should finish penciling Barlow.  Probably the most technically demanding of the portrait series, next to Ian, which I'm dragging ass on because it involves rulers.  I hate ruling perspective on projected light.
  • AZURE PANTRY needs a full edit & re-type for final draft.  But the script is done...  Need to get back on thumbnailing pages & character sheets.  Have first chapter roughed out.
  • The PAINLESS minicomic / trailer is thumbnailed.  Also needs penciling to officially Start.  This script could also use a full re-type.  Priorities are plainly muddled.
  • PROMISELAND is on pause.  The script is halfway there.
  • And then there's HERO OF THE FEVER, which is in various states of production & reboot for four years.  When I started this thing I could barely bend the index finger of my drawing hand.  Anyway.  There's a script, there are thumbnails, there's a theory behind a webcomic incarnation.  We'll see.

The work-pile:  contains more black widows than a stack of firewood.

(I like black widows.  They're cute.)

new scar, new me

Tamed the bookmarks, today.  That's about two years of bookmarking & notes for the four GNs I've been building like a layabout hobbiest.  Nobody cares what you say:  they only care that you DO.  While I've been allowing myself to age like a scar collector and pretending to be unafraid of the inevitable-- when what I should fear is it all having been for naught.

Because what good is "the conceptual incomplete"?  (If I had to name these ambient thought projects I call scripts for graphic novels.  They're concepts that haven't been fucking finished because they're not fucking drawn.)  It's not like a fuckin' readymade, is it?  No one's going to pick these things up and finish them for me.  No-one's liable to say OOOOH that pile of overwriting's lovely let's wear it like a fabulous mink stole.

It's only going to moulder in a box, like me when I'm done.

Which is morbid, but fuck it.  Yesterday my husband was talking wills, and I was nursing a fresh scar.  If one requires more motivation than that to get up off the old rusty-dusty and DO something, then that person is prob'ly a PC gamer.  So it's up and at 'em, today.  Tidy the bookmarks.  Tidy the studio.  Add lines to pages.  Fix scripts.  Buy a new print cartridge & start a fresh round of revisions.  GET TO IT.

I am not leaving a pile of work for the love of my life to sort out.  He's not going to want to draw all this rubbish.  I barely do, as it's intimidating and seems like more than life's worth, some days.  But these are the tasks we are set, the roads we pave ourselves so our inheritors may travel more easily, yes?

New scar, new me.  And I've accrued enough scar tissue I barely recall myself.  The memory is loose as milkfed stool, falling out all nasty.  Like I've been meaning to amend the final few pages of Denizen for a few months now.  And here are all these bookmarks on the moon, staring at me.  I don't remember researching these things, honestly, like I don't remember finishing sketches for so much of this tarot.

If god tires of tapping your shoulder for attention it raps you on the skull.

Let's get to it.
