dream - 1o1324: paralyzed again

Endless dream of not falling asleep.  Depressive slough in which I can't get myself out of bed.  Interminable ringing in ears mingled with the whispered roar of wind currently encircling the building.  Imagined Siegfried coming into the room to goad me.  Imagine we quarrel, which depresses me still further.  Start to gasp, unable to breathe as I struggle to stagger from the room.  Siegfried shuffles off, acting like I'm just being dramatic about not being able to get a job.  "It'll be fine!"  He doesn't realize that I'm not acting and cannot inhale.  The shrill silver tone in my ears rising, rising...

I know none of it happened.  It all feels like it happened.  Worrisome.

dream - 1o1324: new job, same as the old job

Just one more return.  This iteration of my basic-ass bar gig has same drawbacks-- flaky, druggy, inattentive staff.  Sucked back into old patterns.  Same basic menu.  Can't make myself engage with any of it & find attention span flagging.  Just want to get stoned.  Can't keep track of orders placed, but then, staff can't seem to place orders.  Same cycles with all-new idiots.  Front of house crew can't even explain or describe some of the dishes, yet I was supposed to have these orders out thirty minutes ago.  Yet another hell brunch.  I don't know these people.  I don't want to know these people.  And itching to quit already.

dream - 1oo324: obstacles & interference

The library, as I remember leaving it, no longer exists.  The additions are artless, sculptural, and tacky in the extreme.  Oddments everywhere, trashy hand-painted mass manufactured bricabrac tipping over into the floodwaters creeping around the edges.  No-one seems to think anything of it.  None of my old friends acknowledges how tasteless their interference has been, how everything I had carefully filed is now lost beneath an abundance of thoughtlessly contributed, indiscriminate crap.

False walls falling.  Painted skulls toppling into brackish filth.  Immense wyrms thrash beneath the foul waters seeping in.  Their bulk as thick as my thighs.  The flooding quickens.

I don't even remember what it was I was after, in my library.  (It stopped being my library.)  Wishing I hadn't left so much of myself behind with these people.  (It's not my library anymore.)  Shelving sags, buckles, trash paperbacks tumble into the foam.  My feet catching in the churned mud, I stagger and fall.

And the wyrms are upon me.

I'm half-awake, gasping and caught in our bedding, not quite conscious.  I have to force myself awake.  Trying to roll free, I hear Siegfried asking what's wrong.  Straining to I look 'round, all action & reaction working askew of reason, the bulging quilted mound of dark fabric sways nightmarishly over me as I clamber to fall backward out of bed.

"WhasswWwrRroOonNngGg," demands the heap, looming.

--and then I do wake, shouting, shivering, my mouth dry, throat catching.  Siegfried asking what's happening.  "Only nightmares," I say.

Third time tonight.  Goddamned sleep paralysis.
